Meet The Doctor

Dr. Crawford's chiropractic education and previous experience as an engineer provide him with a unique understanding and appreciation for spinal biomechanics and ergonomics. He employs this knowledge for the treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of spinal injuries everyday in his office.

Dr. Crawford was first introduced to the concepts of chiropractic indirectly while growing up in Kirksville, MO, the birthplace of osteopathic medicine.  Although osteopaths are nearly indistinguishable from medical doctors now, their early philosophical roots were very similar to those of chiropractors.  Dr. Crawford remembers receiving spinal manipulations or adjustments from Dr. Nancy Hutchinson, D.O. to his right hip as a kid (after walking 8 miles on railroad tracks with one leg on and one leg off the track the whole way).  He also remembers that Dr. Hutchinson kept his mom from needing low back surgery for years.

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Crawford attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville where graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Optical Science (physics).  He worked for nearly five years as an engineer in Huntsville designing fiber optic sensors, for which he received two patents.  While living in Huntsville, Dr. Crawford had two years of knee pain that went incorrectly diagnosed, even after visits to a sports doctor and an orthopedist (one of them even said nothing was wrong with his knee).  Dr. Jerry Johnson, a chiropractor, heard him talking about his knee one day at the gym, and diagnosed him within minutes correctly. The problem was not even in his knee, it was with his feet.  Orthotics were ordered and within a month the knee pain was gone and has been gone for over 18 years now.  Two years later, Dr. Crawford quit engineering to start chiropractic school.

Dr. Crawford attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  In addition, to being on the President's List for academic excellence, he was accepted as a member of Pi Tau Delta, an international chiropractic honor society.  He also received the Certificate of Merit for unselfish leadership in the profession from Palmer College for teaching each of the three main anatomy labs (Gross I, Gross II, and Spinal Anatomy) several times, which provided him with further practical knowledge of the human anatomy. He has been examined by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and has demonstrated clinical proficiency in all four national certification tests.

Since moving to the Champaign-Urbana area with his practice, Dr. Crawford has treated thousands of locals, with his oldest patient now 97 and his youngest only 3 days old.  He has invested a lot of time and money in utilizing his science background while taking post-graduate classes in studying the causes of injury in low speed auto crashes, and the proper treatment for those injuries.  With his extensive education and patient treatment experience, you can be sure that you will receive the finest in chiropractic and rehabilitative care, with a friendly bedside manner that keeps patients happy and coming back.
